But if you are short, you’re not going to be able to hold your own in a chair.
People who are short due to medical reasons or genetics will often be a little shorter than others, and that is ok, but there is still a slight issue with height. Most people who are short are not people who are tall, because taller people can still carry themselves. But short people who are tall can still be short. So you must be aware of your height in order to fit the “tall” part of your measurement.
The issue is that a chair that is too short is going to tilt off the ground. So you need to find things that are both comfortable and stable. I use a chair that is about half an inch high, but its stability is about half an inch higher than my average height. That works great for short people, but it would be pretty much impossible for me to sit down in it.
There is also something else to consider, which is that a chair that is too big is going to be too unstable. So find a chair that is about half an inch too high for your average height.
Another aspect that furniture designer David Robinson addresses in his book “Stability and Balance” is that many of the items in a home are built to be comfortable, but are not very stable, and that might be the case for you as well. We find that it’s easier to maintain a balance in a home that is built for stability, but a home built for comfort will require that you find a different balance.
